The Comp Title Challenge

A couple weeks ago I saw Tracey @ Adventure Awaits do this tag on her blog and I knew I had to steal do it! I've done a lot of comparative titles for book proposals, but now I'm doing it for fun and it could be helpful later. XD

What are comp titles?

These are books that are similar to your books. Proposals often require this to get a sense of your story and they're also helpful in queries and pitches.

Les Guidelines:

  • Pick a few (or all!) of your WIPS!
  • Give them some comp titles!
  • Tag a few peoples if you wish!
  • Have fun!

Red Hood:

Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama (It's based on a manga which is a book. Hush, people.) meets The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer meets Curio by Evangeline Denmark

Like Attack on Titan, Red Hood has crazy monster werewolves that are nearly unbeatable that eat people and cause general havoc. Like the Lunar Chronicles, Red Hood is based on fairytale retellings, so well-known stories with a twist. Like Curio, it has a mixed setting of cultures and 1800s steampunk technology.

Subsapien:

Maximum Ride by James Patterson meets X-Men (Again they're comics, which are books. No judging!) meets The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Like Maximum Ride, the books center around a bunch of teenage kids with animal DNA. Like X-Men, these kids become like superheroes and some have cyborg parts. Like the Maze Runner, they're in a dystopian society with a crazy disease going on.

Starbloods:

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas meets Scarlet Moon by S.D. Grimm meets Blood of Kings by Jill Williamson

Like Throne of Glass, Starbloods is set in a renaissance world with lots of fairies and monsters great stuff like that. Like Scarlet Moon, Starbloods is about chosen ones with awesome powers. Like Blood of Kings, there's telepathy and sorcery and all that fun stuff.

Silhouette:

Anything Jules Verne meets Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo meets Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray

Jules Verne because it's sci-fi traveling and aliens and such in an old-timey setting. Six of Crows because of the ages of the characters and the Eastern European influence. Defy the Stars because of someone being in a body that people doubt is completely human.

Les Nominees:
Christine @ Musings of an Elf
Melissa @ Quill Pen Writer
Astrid @ Astrid Kaniele Writes
Mary @ Sunshine Scribblings
Alexah @ Summer Snowflakes

What are some comparative titles for your stories? Have you participated in this tag? Have you read some of these comp titles?
